Gynecomastia (Enlarged Breasts in Men)
What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is an increase in breast tissue in males, which causes enlargement of the breasts. Some chemotherapy medications and hormone therapy can cause gynecomastia. There may also be pain in the breasts. The breasts may tender, swollen, or the nipples may be more sensitive. Gynecomastia will often go away when your treatment is stopped.
How is gynecomastia treated?
Gynecomastia is not often treated. Often, the cause of gynecomastia is treated, not the breast tenderness and swelling.
When should I call my care team?
Gynecomastia can be troubling and can cause body image concerns. If you are troubled by breast enlargement or tenderness, speak to your care provider.
