Eli J. Glatstein, MD wins the ASTRO Gold Medal

Eli J. Glatstein, MD, Professor and Vice Chairman in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center was a Gold Medal recipient at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

Dr. Glatstein has spent more than 40 years in the field after receiving his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. During his impressive career, Dr. Glatstein significantly improved how physicians stage cancer, particularly Hodgkin's disease. While working as Chief of the Radiation Oncology Branch, Clinical Oncology Program in the Division of Cancer Treatment at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., in the early 1970s, Dr. Glatstein transformed radiation oncology by combining it with medical oncology, thus changing the stature of radiation oncology within the general cancer community.
