Cough medicine ingredient dextromethorphan could identify poor tamoxifen metabolizers

Nov 29, 2010 - Dextromethorphan, a known "probe drug" for both CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 metabolism, can be used as a phenotyping probe for tamoxifen metabolism in women who must take tamoxifen for breast cancer treatment, according to research presented at the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer/National Cancer Institute/American Association for Cancer Research Symposium on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics, held from Nov. 16 to 19 in Berlin.
