Maze dry pigment on jute 56 x 58 inches 1995
The idea for the series "Games of Disquiet" was drawn from the experience of witnessing the grave illness of my son, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. I realized, not for the first time, that life is a game in which the rules are unfathomable. Life plays with you, cat and mouse. The "game" seemed the right motif to express that sentiment.
Cancer teaches you about life, but, whatever the outcome, you are scorched in the process.
Journey into the Whirlwind dry pigment on jute 60 x 62 inches 1995
Players: One through four.
To play: Begin at top left, throw dice, wind your way through the 52 stations (weeks of the year), passing red zones (danger), green zones (safety), gray zones (neutral territory). Encounter figures "This, for example, is for protection," "Doctor who fits the bill," "In which boats go at great speed." Game ends at lower left with figure "Person with burning desires." Along the way, pick up cards with riddles of varying difficulty, penalties, and bonuses.
