Use common sense when considering a viatical settlement. They are not right for everyone who is facing end-of-life decisions. However, in the appropriate situation, viatical settlements can help provide financial freedom during an extraordinarily challenging time. If a cancer survivor is nearing the end of life and "paying the bills" becomes a major concern, then a viatical settlement may be an attractive and much-needed option.
