The Continuing Saga of Agent Orange oilbars with mixed media 41 x 53 inches 1993

This tribute to Terry Allen for his "Youth in Asia Series" was developed following a visit to the Museum of Modern Art of Fort Worth. I paint in a social criticism pop culture genre, and Terry Allen's sculpture became the impetus for me to paint this unseen continuing saga of Agent Orange.

The massive amount of materials Allen assembled -- language, pictures, songs, objects, war momentos, special effects -- helped visitors to come to grips with a difficult period in American history: a subject difficult for them to think about, difficult to reconstruct, and increasingly difficult to remember.
