Dear OncoLink "Ask the Experts,"
Do you have suggested references for mammography screening guidelines?
Carolyn Vachani RN, MSN, AOCN, OncoLink's Nurse Educator, responds:
The American Cancer Society provides guidelines for screening mammography, which were updated in 2007 to include information about women at higher risk. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force also provides recommendations for breast cancer screening. These were last updated in 2002.
Apr 22, 2015 - Women in their 40s should talk with their doctors and then decide for themselves whether they need regular mammograms to screen for breast cancer before age 50, according to draft U.S. federal health guidelines.
