Recovery Time From Moh's Surgery

Last Modified: May 20, 2011

Question

Dear OncoLink "Ask The Experts,"

What is involved in the recovery from Mohs Surgery? How long until I can go back to work?

Answer

Rachel Woods, BSN, RN, Nurse in Mohs micrographic surgery at Penn Medicine, responds:

Mohs surgery is under local anesthesia and has minimal down time. Most people take a couple of days off of work but some take none at all. Sutures usually are out in a week and swelling and bruising subsides within two weeks. Depending on what type of work you do and where your sutures are located, you may need to take it easy for a few days to avoid opening the wound.
