What types of cancer can be helped by acupuncture and reiki? Is it just solid tumors?
Jun Mao, MD, MSCE, Family Medicine and Community Health Physician and Acupuncturist at PENN Medicine, responds:
Acupuncture and reiki have potential benefits to help individuals with cancer regardless of cancer types (solid or liquid tumors). The benefits are for dealing with side effects of cancer therapy and improve quality of life. For example, acupuncture may help to treat pain, neuropathy, nausea/vomiting, fatigue, and dry mouth related to radiotherapy. Reiki can induce a calming and relaxing effect, which may help improve anxiety and distress for individuals with cancer.
