Timing of Breast Reconstruction |
Dear OncoLink "Ask The Experts," Kevin R. Fox, MD, Assistant Director, Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, responds: If you are going to have a flap reconstruction (either a latissimus flap or a TRAM reconstruction) then you can have it immediately. If you going to have an implant reconstruction, then you should wait at least six months after all chemotherapy and radiation therapy have ended. |
