Gleevec and BMT

Our 14 year old son was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia 6 weeks ago. He is on Gleevec. We have been considering Bone Marrow Transplant but heard that Gleevec may be contraindicated in doing a BMT. Can you shed any light on this?

Being on Gleevec in no way makes patients ineligible for a bone marrow transplant. However, sometimes, the Gleevec is discontinued for some period of time before the transplant is performed.
