Is asbestos found naturally in the environment? I read it is more common in certain parts of the world.

Dan Sterman, MD, Interventional Pulmonologist at Penn Medicine, responds:Asbestos is a naturally occurring group of minerals that is indeed more prevalent in certain areas of the world. Large quantities of asbestos fibers have been found in Australia, South Africa, Canada, and California, as well as many other areas around the world.
