Nuclear Fishin' Oil on canvas 48 x 60 inches 1993 After some time as a computer analyst for a major security system and at one of Pennsylvania's largest facilities for the mentally and behaviorally impaired, Charles Casey, a self-disciplined artist with no formal training other than his own life experiences, gave up his career due to illness and began devoting his time entirely to painting."I perceive the fish as a symbol of life and a vision of birth," he writes. "This particular work was done with oil and fluorescent paint. It is 'visually radioactive.' Just as we become alive or perceive life from the inside out, so must we be valued from the inside out." |
