A Family History colored pencil 8 x 11 inches 1995Four people in my family have been diagnosed with breast cancer. My great-grandmother and my grandmother lost their lives to this disease. My mother and my great-uncle are breast cancer survivors.
I chose to create an elaborate piece as the best way for me to express my own personal experience with cancer. This drawing represents the women in my family who have battled cancer, who have lost their lives to breast cancer or are cancer survivors. I wanted to show the close connection between the four generations, describing our sadness due to our family history, as well as the connection of love and strength that we have inherited from one another and which ultimately binds us together.
