Advances in Neurosurgery for Brain Tumors
We hear about new chemotherapy for brain tumors, but has the field of neurosurgery evolved in how you treat brain tumors?
Lisa Lycksell MSN, CRNP Nurse Practitioner at Penn Medicine, responds:
The field of neurosurgery has evolved with how we treat brain tumors as we have more advanced imaging that can tell us the blood volume and whether it is a high grade glioma or not. We also have deep fiber tracking that can provide us with more information about where the language and motor function are located in one's brain so that when surgery is performed those areas are avoided and preserved.
