Average of 13 Mutations ID'd in Adult AML Genomes

May 2, 2013
Adult acute myeloid leukemia genomes have an average of 13 mutations, and almost all cases have at least one nonsynonymous mutation in a category of genes relevant for pathogenesis, according to a study published online May 1 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Flow Cytometry Indicates Treatment Response in AML

Sep 13, 2012
For children with acute myeloid leukemia, minimal residual disease activity, as measured using flow cytometry, is a good indicator of treatment response, with morphologic analysis providing limited additional information, according to a study published online Sept. 10 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Addition of Gemtuzumab Ozogamicin Ups Survival in AML

Apr 9, 2012
For patients with untreated de novo acute myeloid leukemia, the addition of gemtuzumab ozogamicin to standard frontline chemotherapy improves event-free, overall, and relapse-free survival, without causing excessive toxicity, according to a phase 3 study published online April 5 in The Lancet.

Specific Mutations in AML Affect Response to Therapy

Mar 15, 2012
Patients with acute myeloid leukemia harboring specific combinations of mutations benefit from high-dose daunorubicin; and the majority of bone marrow cells in myelodysplastic syndromes and secondary acute myeloid leukemia are clonal and harbor multiple mutations, according to two studies published online March 14 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Additional Mutations Identified in Relapse-Specific AML

Jan 16, 2012
Relapse of acute myeloid leukemia is associated with acquisition of new mutations and clonal evolution, according to a letter published online Jan. 11 in Nature.
