Overview of the diagnosis and treatment of multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the blood (hematologic cancer) in which one population of clonal (identical) plasma cells starts to reproduce uncontrollably. These cells are known as malignant plasma cells, or myeloma cells.
