Neoadjuvant Therapy
What is it?
Neoadjuvant Therapy is cancer treatment that is given before the main or primary treatment. Neoadjuvant therapy often uses chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or radiation therapy before surgery.
Why is it used?
Neoadjuvant therapy is often given to help shrink (make smaller) a tumor. This is done to see how well the tumor responds to treatment and to make surgery less invasive to help you heal faster. It can also help lower your risk of your cancer coming back. (recurrence).
Your team will talk to you about your treatment options. Ask your provider if neoadjuvant therapy will be a part of your treatment plan.
