Question:

Why do the therapists leave the room during radiation treatments?

Answer:

The therapists leave the room during radiation because if they stayed in the room for every patient’s treatment they would be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. Although the therapists are not in the treatment room when the radiation beam is on, they are consistently monitoring you while you are in the treatment room. There is an intercom and a video camera in the treatment room so the therapists can always see and hear you when they are not in the room.

The therapists will tell you the best way to get their attention if you need assistance once they step out of the room. Speak up, don’t hesitate. The therapists can stop or pause the radiation beam at any time and assist you with your needs.
