I Kissed My Father Late

Copyright © 2000, John E. McGuigan

I kissed my father late
and wondered . . . wondered
why those running board, afternoon deliveries
were so troublesome.

Newspapers and fathers were a chorethen, and meant to be taken for granted.

Six months is a long time to dieeven if you are prepared--or think you are.

I kissed my father late
but learned the essence
of his smile.
