Gynecomastia (Enlarged Breasts in Men)
What is gynecomastia?
Some chemotherapy medications and hormone therapy may cause enlargement of the breasts (gynecomastia) and breast pain in males. The breasts may be painful, tender, swollen, or the nipples may be more sensitive. Gynecomastia will often go away when the treatment is stopped.
How is gynecomastia managed?
Gynecomastia is not often treated. Often, the cause of gynecomastia is treated, not the breast tenderness and swelling.
When should I call my care team?
Gynecomastia can be troubling and can cause body image concerns. If you are troubled by breast enlargement or tenderness, speak to your care provider.
